Way High Blue Sky is the debut album by American rock band Mustard Mole released on November 17, 2020. The entirety of the album was recorded and produced at frontman David Molina's home studio, and was self-released by the band. A concept album developed by Molina while attending high school, Way High Blue Sky tackled a broad array of themes such as isolation, dehumanization and inner peace with the self. Molina and co-founder Matthew Lawrence decided to experiment with abstract lyrics and layered sound effects after initially planning on becoming a punk band. Molina mixed and produced the album at his home studio. The album spawned three singles ("Cardboard Boxes", "A Planet of Your Own", and "I Hold the Sun"), with two of them eventually reaching the US Billboard 200.
Composition and recording for the album began in the wake of the 2019–2020 coronavirus pandemic on March 2020, which paved the way for Molina and Matthew Lawrence with more free time to write music together as the remainder of the school year was cancelled. After Houston, the city in which each member of the band resided, was placed on lockdown for numerous weeks, Molina was inspired to write an album basing his experience in isolation from the rest of the world (or in the case of Way High Blue Sky, isolation from the rest of the universe). Molina and Lawrence collaborated together to compose the album's lyrics and music.
Contemporary reviews for Way High Blue Sky were mixed upon release, with critics detracting the abnormal lyrics and production quality of the album. However, Way High Blue Sky went on to receive widespread critical acclaim; it was eventually certified platinum in 2024, and several publications have cited it as one of the best albums of the early 2020's. It was the only album to feature guitarist Adam Guenoun.

Way High Blue Sky is the debut studio album by American rock band Mustard Mole released on November 17, 2020. The album spawned three singles ("Cardboard Boxes", "A Planet of Your Own", and "I Hold the Sun").
==Background==
Mustard Mole was founded in late 2019 by high school students and childhood friends David Molina and Matthew Lawrence while attending Victory Early College High School in Houston, Texas as juniors. The pair eventually recruited fellow classmates Adam Guenoun and Logan Ross to join the band in October 2019. The group had come together as total amateurs; no members had any prior instrument experience apart from Guenoun.
Recording
Recording began in late May 2020 at Molina's studio in his house. All four members met at his home on several occassions to rehearse and record tracks, as well as to accompany him with the mixing of the album. Almost all of the songs lyrics and music were composed at the quartet's school and at Molina's home.

Way High Blue Sky is the debut studio album by American rock band Mustard Mole released on November 17, 2020. The album spawned three singles ("Cardboard Boxes", "A Planet of Your Own", and "I Hold the Sun").
It is the only album to feature guitarist Logan Ross.
Background

The artwork for the cover sleeve was produced by Molina in Adobe Photoshop.

Way High Blue Sky is the debut studio album by American rock band Mustard Mole released on November 17, 2020. The majority of the album was recorded and produced at frontman David Molina's home studio (with several sessions taking place at rapper Jayden Brewer's home, better known as Sushi Sanders), and was self-released by the band. The album spawned three singles ("Cardboard Boxes", "A Planet of Your Own", and "I Hold the Sun").
It is the only album to feature guitarist Logan Ross.
Background
Artwork
The artwork for the cover sleeve was produced by Molina in Adobe Photoshop.
